Thailand is a Buddhist country, many religious festivals are also public holidays while some historical dates and the anniversaries of the King and Queen are also holidays. Besides banks and government offices that are closed on these days, there is no real difference with the other days of the year. Transport, hotels, restaurants, bars, shops, department stores operate normally. During some festivals alcohol sale is restricted or prohibited.
