Visakha Bucha

The Vesak Day or Visaka Bucha Day commemorates the birth of Buddha, his enlightenment and his death, three events that took place on the same day but in different years. That day and the week before, Buddhists put yellow flags outside their homes, go to the temple to listen to sermons about the Buddha's teaching and pay tribute to the Three Jewels of Buddhism: Buddha, Dhamma (the truth) and the Sangha (the community of disciples). At nightfall, they participate in processions with candles, circle clockwise three times around the temple. It brings them prosperity and luck. Visakhabuchacommes from Visakapoonnameebucha, which means worship of Lord Buddha.
