The Hat Yai Vegetarian Festival is an annual event held during the ninth lunar month of the Chinese calendar. It is believed that the vegetarian festival and its accompanying sacred rituals bestow good fortune upon those who religiously observe this rite. During this time, local residents strictly observe a 10-day vegetarian for the purposes of spiritual cleansing and merit-making and also want to promote stop killing animal life and eat vegetarian foods for a healthy life. The highlights of this event are the procession of gods, golden dragons and from every shrines around Hatyai. Also, there are many booths of vegetarian food offering to the visitors all day.
