On October 13, 2016, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Rama 9, his dynastic name, died, leaving an entire country orphan

It was decided in 2017 that to pay homage to His memory every year October 13, the anniversary of His death, will be public holiday. Numerous ceremonies will be held throughout Thailand.
