Information about Ubon Ratchathani Candle Festival

This festival is held on Wan Asanha Bucha, a Buddhist holiday that commemorates the first sermon of Lord Buddha and on Wan Kao Pansa, the next day which marks the start of Buddhist Lent.
The highlight of Ubon Ratchathani Candle Festival is the parade of giant candles going throughout the city, each float represents a local temple, a district or an institution. The sculpture of the wax statues sometimes begins months in advance. On Asanha Bucha day, candles gather at the Thung Si Mueang, a park in the middle of the city, where they are decorated and then exhibited in the evening. on the same evening, there are small processions with lighted candles in several temples.
On the next morning for Wan Kao Pansa day starts the procession. The parade is accompanied by dancers and musicians in traditional costume.
The Ubon Ratchathani Candle Festival is not the only candle festival in Thailand for this occasion but it is the biggest and most famous in the country.
