General information about the province of Surat Thani

Province of region Southern Thailand

The province of Surat Thani is located in the south of Thailand. It is the province of the islands of Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao but also that of the superb national park of Khao Sok and its lake.

Koh Samui, famous for its white sand beaches, crystal clear waters and luxury resorts remains the number one destination for tourists in Surat Thani, Koh Tao, the preferred island for diving and Koh Phangan, famous for his Full Moon Parties on the beach. the city of Surat Thani offers very little tourist interest. On the other hand, it is a crossing point for plane + ferry or train + ferry combinations to the islands of the Gulf of Thailand mentioned above. And also to go to Chiew Lan Lake, the superb lake in Khao Sok National Park, one of my big favorites in Thailand!

Destinations to visit in Surat Thani

Koh Tao

Koh Tao is an island like all places with a name starting with Koh ( it means island in Thai ). This is the number one place for diving in Thailand. The diving clubs are so numerous that it is almost impossible to make an accurate count of them. The the seabeds to explore here are sublime. With the calm turquoise water, the white sand beach and small islands off the coast it is a real postcard scenery.
The island has not finished his modernization accelerated by the arrival of tourists. Som...

Koh Samui

Koh Samui island is probably one of the busiest in Thailand. It is also the only one with an airport with Phuket airport. Known for its nightlife, it also offers visitors a beatifuk coastline with white sand beaches and turquoise waters. The sea is sometimes a little rough. This is the ideal destination for people who love to party, love hot weather, the beach and nightlife (especially at Chaweng Beach). But Samuiisland is also a nice destination for family vacation, it offers many water activit...

Koh Phangan

Located between Koh Tao and Koh Samui, Koh Phangan is famous for its Full Moon Party (fullmoonparty-thailand.com) that takes place the nights of full moon on Hat Rin beach. Many revelers go there these days and many of those who appreciate the island for its many other assets avoid the palce on full moon nights. Koh Pha Ngan beaches have nothing to envy to the one of the neighbours islands. With forests and waterfalls...

Surat Thani

Surat Thani is especially known for being the gate to Koh Samui and its neighboring islands Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. Although it is possible to reach the islands from the city of Chumphon, hundred miles upper in North. It is also faster and more convenient from Bangkok, when you want to go to Koh Tao to take the boat to Chumphon. With an airport, the city has few tourist attractions. It has several piers, the best known and the most active is Donsak 75 km from Surat Thani from where ferries lea...

Khao Sok

Located in Surat Thani province in southern Thailand, Khao Sok is neither a city nor an island but one of the most famous and beautiful national parks in the country. To give it the visibility it deserves and facilitate your research, I decided to add it as a destination and not as a simple visit to do from Surat Thani any more.

First you should know that often when peoople talk about Khao Sok, they talk about its lake, the Chiew Lan Lake and its sublime landscapes that is reminiscent of Hal...
