General information about the province of Songkhla
Many foreign embassies indicate that the provinces of the far south of Thailand, Pattani, Narathiwat, Yala, are prey to occasional explosive attacks, due to an insurrection separatist. The province of Songkhla also suffered smaller attacks. They recommend to tourists to never go in thoses provinces..
Songkhla province is a cultural and seaside resort popular with Thais for its historical charm, magnificent beaches and delicious cuisine. Songkhla Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Thailand, straddling Phatthalung province is the jewel of the area but the old town with its colonial buildings, its Buddhist temples and lively market are also worth the detour.
Visitors can also explore the area's sandy beaches, such as Samila Beach and its famous mermaid statue. Having not inspected the province like I normally do because I cannot encourage you to go there, I cannot really tell you more about its tourist attractions.
