Your Travel Guide to Thailand
All information & tips to prepare your trip in Thailand
Hua Hin is famous for its yellow and red wooden train station, one of the oldest in Thailand (the oldest is in Kantang in Trang province), but it has recently been replaced by a newer, more modern, and less charming station a little further away. Recent improvements to the network have made the train journey to Hua Hin faster (book online HERE). There are about a dozen trains a day that serve the city, varying in speed and ticket price. Some depart from Krung Thep Aphiwat Station, while others leave from Bangkok's old central station, Hua Lamphong. However, buses and minivans are faster. Public or VIP buses depart regularly from Bangkok's South Terminal (Sai Tai Mai). Minivans also operate this route from Chatuchak Minibus Station, opposite Mo Chit Terminal (book online here at the bottom of the page) or Ekkamai Terminal. Another convenient option is the VIP bus service connecting Suvarnabhumi Airport (timetables and reservations HERE) or, since March 2025, Don Muang Airport to Hua Hin, as well as Nakhon Ratchasima buses to Hua Hin. Additionally, Air Asia now operates direct flights from Chiang Mai.
IMPORTANT: from 19th January 2023, 52 trains leave or arrive in Bangkok at brand new Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal Station, the other ones will still depart and arrive in Hua Lamphong Station (until next step to move all trains to the new Bangkok railway station). For more information about the new Railway Station download this guide.
WARNING: many buses can only be booked 30 days before depature tops. They won't be displayed in the results on our transportation booking partner's website if not bookable yet.
To leave Hua Hin besides the train, there are many buses and minivans. A minivan leaves every 30 minutes from different locations in the city and at the terminal (book online here) and buses to Bangkok that arrive at the Southern Bus Terminal called Sai Tai Mai or at Bangkok airports. There are also very frequent departures of passenger minivans to Sai Tai Mai as well, Chatuchak Minibus Station or Ekkamai Bus Terminal. For destinations other than Bangkok, besides the train to go further south, there are buses to Chiang Mai, Nakhon Ratchasima, or Phuket via Chumphon and Ranong from the Bus Terminal on the way to Khao Takhiab. There are also small red local buses to go to Pranburi, Cha-Am or Phetchaburi. Not to mention the very practical bus that connects Hua Hin to Suvarnabhumi Airport (schedules and reservations HERE) and the one that since March 2025, connects Hua Hin to Don Muang airport. On the plane side, Air Asia has set up a direct flight to Chiang Mai.
