Bangkok is the capital city so it is very easy to connect it by bus, train or plane. There are also many boat + bus packages from the islands of the country. For large and medium-sized cities, buses depart from Bangkok at least every hour in general. From Mochit BusTerminal buses go to Northern Thailand and Isan (North-eastern Thailand), from Ekkamai to Eastern Thailand and from Sai Tai Mai BusTerminal to Southern Thailand (and Kanchanaburi or Damnoen Saduak & Amphawa). Bangkok central train station is Hua Lamphong from which all trains leave except trains to Kanchanaburi which are at Thonburi railway station. Bangkok has two airports, Suvarnabhumi, the biggest and most recent one, where you will most likely land when arriving in Thailand and Don Muang more specialized in domestic flights (there are also some international medium-distance flights) and starting point of most low-cost airlines.
We only list here the most popular train routes for more complete results, launch a detailled train search.
IMPORTANT: from 19th January 2023, 52 trains leave or arrive in Bangkok at brand new Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal Station, the other ones will still depart and arrive in Hua Lamphong Station (until next step to move all trains to the new Bangkok railway station). For more information about the new Railway Station download this guide.
WARNING: many buses can only be booked 30 days before depature tops. They won't be displayed in the results on our transportation booking partner's website if not bookable yet.
From Bangkok, you can go almost to everywhere in Thailand, at least by bus. By train you can connect all cities with a railway station from Hua Lamphong Central Station (or Thonburi station to go to Kanchanaburi) and by plane there are direct flights to almost all airports in the country. Most low cost airlines domestic flights take off from Don Muang, Bangkok's second airport, but there are also some domestic flights from Suvarnabhumi airport. A free shuttle exists between the two airports (see details here).
Connections to neighboring countries are also possible, by plane of course, but there also are direct buses to Cambodia (Phnom Penh and Siem Reap near Angkor) and Laos (Ventiane) from Mo Chit, Bangkok Northern Bus Terminal.

The train is the cheapest way to travel in Thailand especially in 3rd class. This is also where the contact with the population is the most interesting and incredible...
Taking the plance to travel in Thailand is often not that much more expensive than the bus especially with the numerous specials offers and it is so much faster !
