Travel guide to visit Prachuap Khiri Khan
Capital of the province with the same name, Prachuap Khiri Khan is far from the agitation of its neighbour Hua Hin and still has not much foreigners tourists. The city does not lack of charm with its beautiful seafront, a temple perched on a hill where monkeys live and that offers a magnificent view on the bay, without forgetting the atypical Ao Manao beach, its golf with often yellowed grass except for the green just before the beach, its pier, the countryside and the mountains around. Prachuap has preserved its authenticity and is a very pleasant stop for enjoying the sea and the seafood served in restaurants, doing bike excursions in the area. If you have time go discover the Sam Roi Yot Park nearby.Do not be afraid to enter the military base in the South of the city. It is the gateway to reach the beautiful beach of Ao Manao and the golf course. The only formality to be completed for non-Thai people is to sign the register in the building left after the entrance.

When you book a hotel online to sleep in Prachuap Khiri Khan, make sure it is located where you want to stay. In the city or at Sam Roi Yod. Prachuap is small even if it is the capital of the province, but it has many accommodation options. You have major hotels and a few friendly guesthouses with a limited number of rooms along the seafront on Suk Road Sant. And in the surrounding streets between the station and the sea front, there are many small cheap hotels. Ao Manao, the most beautiful beach is 3 km away from the city, in the military base. There is also some accommodation there. Just like on Pin Anuson Road along Ao Noi beach. Please note that for weekends and holidays many Thais, generally from Bangkok, come to spend a few days here. How to go to Prachuap Khiri Khan ?
To go to Prachuap Khiri Khan, you have the choice between the train, the bus or minivans. There is a little less than 10 trains per day from Bangkok while by bus bus there is a departure every hour from Bangkok South Terminal (Sai Tai Mai). Bus is the fastest and most convenient way to come from Bangkok or Hua Hin. From Hua Hin, you can stop the bus passing on the road by waving at them.How to get around in Prachuap Khiri Khan ?
If Prachuap Khiri Khan is a small city you can easiluy walk around, to go to Ao Manao beach or to Ao Noi, you will have to hire a tuk-tuk or rent a bicycle (50 THB per day ) or a scooter. Ask your hotel.

Built on the top of a hill, it is the first thing you will see when you arrive in Prachuap. The building itself is not very impressive but the view over the city and the two bays is just amazing. The other attraction of this mountain are the monkeys living there.
Khao Sam Roi Yod National Park

Located at the edge of the sea with numerous caves including the very photogenic Phraya Nakhon Cave with its little royal pavilion lighted by a ray of sun comming from the opening at the top. The park is about sixty kilometers from Hua Hin and Prachuap Khiri Khan, thirty from Pranburi and a dozen kilometers from Kuiburi. There are a few accommodation options in the park.
Phraya Nakhon Cave

It is the highlight of any visit to the Sam Roi Yod National Park. This beautiful cave hosts a small Royal Pavilion which is often illuminated by a ray of light coming from the opening at the top of the cave. A relaxing and very photogenic place which is also the emblem of the province.

in the North, the beach is less pleasant but if you continue on the road you will come to a beach with fishing boats and on the right a little path in the mountain that takes you to a charming temple in a cave.

This pop-up night market that is only held a few days per week on a portion of Prachuap Khiri Khan city's seaside road is pleasant and the perfect place to experience Thai street food in all its diversity.
Kuiburi national park

This thai national park, which is home to many animal species in lush nature with a few waterfalls, is the place where you are most likely to see wild elephants in Thailand ! There are more than 300 elephants in the park and tours offered by the park rangers give you a good chance of seing them.Other places to see in Prachuap Khiri Khan
Ao Manao
this bay located within a military base has the nicest beach in the area. Particularly quiet week, it comes alive on weekends and holidays when many Thais come to enjoy the sea.
Khao Ta Mong Lai Forest Park
mountainous park on the seafront at the end of Ao Noi beach. There is a pleasant trek along the coast.
Khao Lom Muak mountain
This hill offers an incredible viewpoint on the surroundings and especially the 3 small islands and the bay of Prachuap Khiri Khan. But climbing up there is quite hard and only allowed during long holiday weekends in Thailand. The rest of the year, you still can go see the langur monkeys that are almost always there.
Wat Ao Noi
If this is the whole Ao Noï bay area that I recommend you to visit, do not miss Wat Ao Noi's small wooden carved hall, located just alittle before the beach and the stairs leading to cave with the 2 reclining Buddha images.
Khan Kra Dai Cave
The place is actually home to two caves. The most famous one is accessed by a path of steps in the mountains alongside the sea. It houses two reclining Buddha images. It's the whole bike ride to come here with the nearby Wat Ao Noi, the beach and even the fishing port that is really nice.
Sai Cave
This little-visited cave in Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park has superb stalactites that form like a waterfall. The path to get to it, if it is not very long, is arduous.
Khao Daeng Viewpoint
This is the most famous viewpoint in Khao Sam Roi Yod Park and certainly offers a superb 360 ° view of the surroundings which is appreciated at sunrises and sunsets.
Pa La-U Waterfall
This waterfall about sixty kilometers from Hua Hin is located in Kaeng Krachan National Park. It is a pleasant area of nature but not the most photogenic waterfall in Thailand.
Weather & climate in
Prachuap Khiri Khan has a tropical savanna climate. Temperatures do notvary a lot throughout the year and the dry and wet season is not as clearly defined as in most parts of Thailand. The rainiest month is October.The best months to come to Prachuap Khiri Khan are from December to April but even during the monsoon, precipitation here remains fairly moderate except for a few isolated episodes with possible flash floods. October is the only month when coming here is maybe not recommended.
