Watermelon Beach is a peaceful beach located at the southern tip of Koh Sukorn Island, which is well known for its watermelon farming. Many people say they are the best in Thailand. I couldn’t really say, but they are excellent! Very juicy and sweet. Besides rice paddies, Koh Sukorn also has many watermelon fields, and at Watermelon Beach you’ll find them right along the shore, which is where the nickname Watermelon Beach comes from.
Watermelon Beach is not a picture-perfect, tropical beach—there are actually no white-sand, turquoise-water beaches on Koh Sukorn—but crossing watermelon plantations before reaching the beach and the sea is quite unusual! You can also watch the sunset here, although my favorite sunset spot on Koh Sukorn is Ban Thung Beach, which lies just further along the coast.
Guide to visit Watermelon Beach
Swimming is possible at Watermelon Beach, but preferably at high tide. At low tide, you'll have to walk quite far out to sea, and the water will be very shallow.
How to get to Watermelon Beach ?
To get to Watermelon Beach, the best option is to hire a saleng (tuk-tuk), as they are inexpensive. Alternatively, you can rent a bicycle. It fits well into an island tour, which all tuk-tuk drivers can offer and which will likely also take you through the rice paddies and to Ban Tha Laem Pier.
