The Wat Sangkat Rattana Khiri temple has a lower part and an upper part perched on Khao Sakae Krang hill within the city of Uthai Thani. It is the upper part that is the most interesting and the busiest despite the 449 stepsto clim on the long Naga staircase to reach it.
At the top, there is a pavilion with a tiered roof, housing a replica of Buddha's footprint and a large sacred bronze bell built during the reign of King Rama V. People say that visitors coming to Uthai Thani and who didn't rung the bell didn't really visited the province. In another corner of the temple, stands the statue of King Rama I's father, the founder of the Chakri dynasty, who was born in Ban Sakae Krang.
Wat Sangkat Rattanakhiri's upper part offers a nice view overlooking Uthai Thani city. Especially beautiful at sunrise.
Wat Sangkat Rattana Khiri in Uthai Thani is home to the largest Tak Bat Thewo ceremony in Thailand (for more details about it read my post about Tak Bat Thewo festival in Thailand).
