Every Sunday evening, San Khong Noi Road
(see map below) in Chiang Rai city becomes pedestrian for a few hours and welcomes the stalls of a large night market. An nice weekend event to do some shopping and eat on the run or sitting at tables arranged at different places after buying your dinner among the wide choice of food stalls of this big night bazaar. The largest concentration of food stands is in Rajyotha Soi 3 and it is also there, opposite Wat Chetuphon temple, that there is a stage with singers and a big place where locals come to dance in an very friendly atmosphere. In Chiang Rai as in Chiang Mai, there is a Walking Street on Saturday night and a Walking Street on Sunday night in two different streets depending on the day but if there is a large crowd in both cities, the one in Chiang Rai is almost exclusively composed of locals, foreign tourists are very very few. Prooving if needed that these Thai night markets first exist for locals but tourists are also welcome of course.
