Baie Phang Nga
Bay Of Phang Nga
Located about sixty kilometers from Khao Lak or 85 kilometers from Phuket, Phang Nga town is known throughout Thailand for its bay with offers exceptional landscapes. Limestone cliffs, caves, archaeological sites, mangrove and turquoise sea are featured in this picture postcard setting. Part of the bay is protected and included in Ao Phang Nga National Park.
There are many agencies that offer day trip in the bay from Khao Lak (price between 1400 and 3000 baht depending on your negotiating skills), they generally all have the same program, it's just the order that changes. You navigate in the bay, have kayak tour with driver, visit the famous James Bond Island, have lunch on Koh Panyee island then visit it and then sometimes stop on a beach or visit a cave. Often the day ends with a visit to Wat Sunawan Khuha or Golden Cave temple.
You will not be alone, Phang Nga Bay and especially James Bond Island and Panyee Island welcome a lot of tourists, during the day, especially in high season.

Practical information about Phang Nga Bay

For trips from Khao Lak or Phuket, negotiate the price and don't hesitate to go to several agencies to compare the rates. Prices can vary very significantly for exactly the same service.
For those who want stay in the bay there are two homestays in Panyee Island. A unique experience! But wake up in the early morning to enjoy the place before the tourist rush.

How to get to Phang Nga Bay ?

You can go to Phang Nga at one of the piers by yourself and hire the services of a longtail for around 1500-2000 baht per boat (+ the national park entrance fees). But the quality of your our will vary depending on the captain you chosse so it's a bit of a lottery. Staying in a hotel in Phang Nga City is also an option for an early departure which your hotel or guesthouse should be able to arrange for you . For me, to ensure a quality visit, it is better to go with an agency than to go to the pier and deal with a longtail boat captain. Those who work the best are alrady hired by the local agencies.
