Your Travel Guide to Thailand
All information & tips to prepare your trip in Thailand
The Khlong Bang Luang Market in Bangkok is a charming place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city while enjoying a picturesque canalside atmosphere. This iconic spot embodies the tranquil ambiance of Thailand's ancient floating markets, where even today, a few boats still sail beneath the traditional bridges.
Despite its name, it is no longer a floating market as there are no longer any vendors on boats, either sailing or moored. But it remains a great place to soak up the atmosphere of Bangkok's canalside life, the famous klongs. Come here, preferably on weekends, when it's more lively, have a bite to eat or drink a coffee or other non-alcoholic drink in one of the restaurants or cafes and sit in the stalls with small workshops making necklaces and bracelets and painting on wood, including that of its famous Artist House (Baan Silapin in Thai).
It's recommended to come to the Klong Bang Luang Floating Market on weekends because it's very quiet during the week and not everything is open.
Personally, I even recommend spending the night there on Saturday or Sunday in a lodge by the canal. It's a pleasant change of scenery, and in the morning you'll witness the monk's offering collection tour by boat, a timeless moment.
The Khlong Bang Luang market and its Artist House are also on the agenda for a few boat tours on the klongs of Bangkok, particularly those that depart on Saturdays and Sundays from the Taling Chan floating market at 1 p.m., but be there at least an hour before to be sure. to have space. They allow you to attend the traditional puppet show known as Hun Krabok which is given at Wat Kamphaeng Bangchak, a temple located in the main parking lot of Bang Luang Market at 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays (previously this show was at the Artist House).
