If Bang Krachao has been nicknamed the green lung of Bangkok (even though geographically it is in Samut Prakan, it lies right on the outskirts of Bangkok), it’s because it is a small, well-preserved area, full of nature on the edge of the city’s hustle and bustle. It’s very pleasant and refreshing to cycle along the small cement paths that wind between trees, bamboo, and a few houses in the heart of Bang Krachao. On weekends, many Bangkok residents come here to cycle, which is the best way to visit Bang Krachao.
I actually recommend coming on the weekend so you can also enjoy the very friendly Bang Nam Phueng floating market, where I suggest having lunch. Places offering workshops, such as Ban Joss-Aroma, are now no longer open on weekdays due to a lack of customers. That said, during the week it is even more peaceful. So it’s up to you to choose between the absolute calm of weekdays and the sense of escape that comes with more people, additional activities, and the weekend floating market.
In Bang Krachao, you won’t be in the middle of the countryside, but if you venture onto the small elevated cement roads, a real change of scenery is guaranteed! Be careful, though: these little roads can quickly turn into a labyrinth where you might have some trouble finding your way. That’s why I recommend taking a tour with a local guide who lives in Bang Krachao, whom I recommend further down this page in my suggestions for excursions in Bangkok.

- explore the area by bike through nature and houses along the small elevated cement paths
- visit the Bang Nam Phueng floating market (open weekends only)
- relax in Sri Nakhorn Kuan Khan Park
- go see a beautiful Ganesh statue (your choice, as entrance now costs 20 THB)
- visit the Ban Joss-Aroma Community Enterprise for T-shirt dyeing workshops or incense-stick making (weekends only)
- go to Bangkok Tree House for a drink and to take the famous overhead photos with bicycles (ask the staff)

How to get to Bang Krachao, Bangkok's green lung ?
By public transport, there are several options to go to Bang Krachao with several piers offering to cross the Chao Phraya River to get there. The most known way to get to bangkok's Green Lung is to go to Klong Toey Pier located behind Wat Klong Toei by taxi or by MRT, Bangkok metro and stop at Klong Toei station and then hire a taxi to reach Klong Toey Pier Pier (60 THB). The boats are at the end of the street along Wat Klong Toey. The crossing costs 10 baht. As soon as you arrive on the other side, you will see a bike rental shop (80 THB a day) that will also give you a Bang Krachao map.Another lesser known option but it became my favorite one because you are quickly in the heart of the small elevated roads crossing nature and houses, it is to go to Bang Na Pier in Samut Parakan (which is located HERE) then take a boat to cross the river (5 THB), you'll arrive at Wat Bang temple Nam Phueng Nok where you have bicycle rental shops (50 THB per day) and just after 3 minutes, you are at the heart of what bang krachao is about and quickly arrive at the nice Tree House Café.
