Visit Wat Phra Non (Mae Hong Son)

g_translate Thai name : วัดพระนอน
reviews My opinion: starstarstarstarstar
Mae Hong Son
Wat Phra Non
Wat Phra Non Temple
Wat Phra Non Museum
At the foot of Doi Kong Mu mountain where the Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu is located and just after Wat Muay Tor, Wat Phra Non, literally Temple of the Reclining Buddha, housesto a colorful 12 meters long statue from 1875 in a hall with a Burmese style multilevel metal roof. But for us, the most interesting in this temple is behind this building. There you will find a long collapsed stone staircase guarded by two Singha lion statues. And at its left, there is a lovely sitting Buddha, and other buildings with Burmese style roofs and Buddha statues.
The reclining Buddha is certainly not the most extraordinary one in Thailand but just for the large stone staircase going up to the top of the mountain and the two massive statues guarding it, it's visiting Wat Phra Non.

How to get to Wat Phra Non ?

Depending on where you are staying in Mae Hong Son, you can get to Wat Phra Non quite quickly. Otherwise, you will have hire a tuk-tuk (there are some at the bus terminal and city fresh market). Now that the stairs have been renovated, there is a path down from Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu to Wat Nhra Non. You can therefore easily combine the visit of the two temples in the order that suits you the most.
