Located in the district of Khun Yuam, 90 kilometers or 1h45 drive from Mae Hong Son city , the Thung Bua Tong Fields are a whole 160 hectare section of mountain at the top of Doi Mae U-Kor Mount entirely covered with mexican sunflowers which have smaller flowers than the "classic" sunflowers. They are native from Central America and are called Dok Bua Tong in Thai. They were reportedly brought to Thailand by Christian missionaries.
The flowering takes place from mid-October to mid-December but it is especially the month of November that there are the most flowers (obviously it depends on the weather). They attract a lot of people, the overwhelming majority is Thai. The rest of the year, almost no one comes to visit this remote area. You can climb to the summit by stairs to get the overview of my first photo.
