Also called Death Railway Bridge and subject of a movie, this bridge and the railway line that takes it have a heavy history. During World War II between 1942 and 1943, under the yoke of Japanese, thousands of prisoners were killed at work while building the section of railway track that should link Bangkok to Burma.
Need a hotel near River Kwai Bridge ?
Do you want to stay in a hotel near River Kwai Bridge ?
Try to be there when the train passes on the bridge, well, not on the bridge (even if it is possible, there are spaces provided to park on the side of the track) but on the river bank to see the train pass. I also advise you to cross the River Kwai Bridge completely. There is a large Chinese temple and the tomb of the Chinese soldier to visit a few minutes walk on the other side.
If you have chosen a hotel in Kanchanaburi in town, you can probably walk to the bridge easily. Otherwise hire a tuk-tuk or cycle a rental bike (some accommodations offer them to their guests)
