Located on Khao Phra Tamnak the small hill between South Pattaya and Jomtien, the Big Buddha (or Phra Yai in Thai) wwas builtin 1977 when the city was still a quiet little fishing village. Called Phra Buddha Sukhothai Walai Chonlathan but also known as Luang Pho Yai It is the largest of Its kind in the Chonburi Province with 18 meters high. It is far from 95 meters high of the statue of
Wat Muang in Ang Thong which remains until today the highest Buddha statue in Thailand. A long stairway flanked by two golden colored naga snakes leads to the main statue. From up there, the view is unfortunately not so clear.
Just before the Big Buddha temple, there is a Chinese Temple, Wang Sam Sien. It stands after Chaloem Phrakiat Park and an esplanade where during high season yoga classes are held in the morning.
