Le Grand Bouddha est en rénovation pour plusieurs mois. Je n'ai pas d'ordre d'idée sur la fin des travaux. Renseignez-vous avant si vous comptez y aller.
This temple located in Ang Thong (about forty kilometers from Ayutthaya or Lopburi), about ten kilometers from the city center, is best known for its huge golden sitting Buddha 95 meters high. It is te highest in the country (at least for the moment, all records have to be beaten one day). The curiosity here is the right hand of the Buddha that visitors can touch from a small stage and below which they look really tiny.
Besides the imposing statue that dominates Wat Muang, there are other wihaans and statues in the garden, including a large square with two ghosts and torture scenes behind them. This temple is very popular and appreciated by Thais and not often visited by foreign tourists for now. Probably because Ang Thong even if it is only a few kilometers from Ayutthaya and Lopburi is not on tour programs. But it is definitly a place amazing photos fans will enjoy.
To go to Wat Muang, you must first go to Ang Thong city (there are minivans leaving from Bangkok Northern Bus Terminal Mo Chit) and then from bus terminal take a tuk-tuk that will probably offer you a formula in which he will be waiting for you and take you back to the terminal when you will have finished visiting. But you can also catch minivans 951 or 952 from the main road that will drop you off at the beginning of the road leading to the temple for 20 bahts. And you will have to walk the last 500 meters.
To go to Ang Thong from Lopburi, take a minivan near the bus terminal. The pediment of the terminal in front of you turn left to the market then the first road on the right just at the beginning of the market. The minivans are at the end of the street at the corner on the right (50 THB - 45 minutes). From Ayutthaya, you also have to take a minivan to Ang Thong (you can arrange it with an agency like Tour With Thai next to Tony's Place) otherwise, a private taxi can take you there, wait for you and bring you back for around 1000 THB.
