Located at a bend in the Mekong some 5 km outside of Chaing Khan city, the Kaeng Khut Khu rapids form when the water level is high enoçugh. They are located in front of a magnificent mountainous landscape. The place is much more spectacular when there are the small waterfalls in the middle of the river (this was not the case on my pictures) but also offers a pretty setting when there are not here. There is a since small market and you can also eat thai food in local restaurants with a view and take small boat tours.

Practical information about Kaeng Khut Khu

There is a small market on and around the car park where you can buy souvenirs but also local delicacies made from coconuts called ma pro gaw and have lunch in the little restaurant stalls.
Boat tours traveling to Kaeng Ku Kut usually last 1:30 and cost around THB 1000 per boat (10 people). Ask your guesthouse.

How to get to Kaeng Khut Khu ?

You can get to Kaeng Khut Khu (Kaeng Kood Koo on the signs) by bike it's very easy since there is the blue bike path that runs along the river from the end of Chai Khong Road, just follow it . In a motorized vehicle, it won't be much more complicated, you have to take road 211 (parallel to Chai Khong Road) towards the immigration office and continue straight. You will cross a small bridge and the road will bend to the left. 500 meters further, you will see the entrance of a temple, take the road on left next to it and follow it for 1 km. Otherwise a tuk-tuk will take you around 80 THB to take you there.
