Marche Aux Fleurs Bangkok

The Pak Khlong Talat is Bangkok's largest flower market, located in the city (there is another one on the outskirts). Open 24 hours a day, it is particularly lively in the evenings and at night, when florists come to stock up. This iconic market is a unique place where the colors, scents, and bustle create an authentic and photogenic atmosphere.

Location and Nearby Landmarks

The market is located at the corner of Chak Phet Road and Pak Khlong Road, along the Chao Phraya River, in the Phra Nakhon district. It is just a 10-minute walk from Wat Pho and about a 15-minute walk from the Grand Palace. It's therefore an excellent stop to include in a visit to Bangkok's historic center to see a typical local market.

History and Atmosphere

Originally, Pak Khlong Talat was a fish market... located on the banks of a canal (pak khlong means canal mouth in Thai). It gradually transformed into a wholesale fruit and vegetable market in the early 20th century, before becoming a major flower market in the 1950s, supplied daily by growers from all over the country (notably Chiang Mai, Nakhon Pathom, and Ratchaburi).

What can you find at the market?

  • Fresh cut flowers: jasmine, orchids, roses, lotuses, gladioli, carnations, sunflowers, etc.
  • Floral arrangements, bouquets, garlands (phuang malai), and wreaths.
  • Accessories for Buddhist rituals, banana leaves, and decorative baskets.
  • A few stalls selling fruit and vegetables, souvenirs, and decorative objects.

How to get to Bangkok Flower Market ?

The flower market is located just a short walk from the Memorial Bridge in Bangkok. You can reach it by taking the Chao Phraya Express boats to the Memorial Bridge Pier (Saphan Phut) and then walking. By subway, the nearest station is Sanam Chai on the MRT Blue Line. Take exit 5 and walk for about 5 minutes to reach the market (see the Bangkok subway map). Alternatively, it's also easy to walk there from Wat Pho (10 minutes) and the Grand Palace (15 minutes).
