Ban Rak Thai village is located around a small lake and is famous for its mainly U-Long tea plantations. Here you can have a pleasant stay in the mountains, enjoying tea and Chinese cuisine. On the other hand, do not expect a lively nightlife. And note that the photo that we see the most (including mine) with the Chinese houses among the tea plants is the picture of a hotel in Ban Rak Thai, the Lee Wine Ruk Thai Resort. I did not take a lot of pictures because unfortunately we only had an hour without rain during our stay up there.
If there is a local bus (see below) to come to Baan Rak Thai, and that's how I got there, I recommend you to have your own transportation to be able to go to see the Pha Suea waterfall or Pang Ung.

You will also find this small mountain village about fifty kilometers from the town of Mae Hong Son under the name of Mae Aw. It must be said that there are several localities in Thailand called Ban Rak Thai which means the village of those who love Thailand and that Mae Aw is the old name of this chines village founded by former nationalist fighters from Yunnan province in China who fled to Myanmar and then had to flee to arrive in Thailand. The Thai government has agreed that they stay to protect the border from the spread of communism.
How to get to Baan Rak Thai ?
To come to Baan Rak Thai, if you have no vehicle, take a yellow songhtaew (pickup with benches at the back) from the back of the Mae Hong Son Food Market, on the street that runs along the airport's runaway. There are 2 departures per day in the morning but go ask for the timetables the day before. The price is 130 baht per person. Be careful, ask before you go up in the truck, there are several yellow songthaews, not all of them go to Ban Rak Thai.
