What to do and see in Nakhon Sawan
Foreign tourists typically visit only the city itself, especially the stunning, gilded, and highly photogenic Wat Kiriwong, perched on the hill overlooking it. This small mountain is also home to the Observation Tower. Another major attraction in Nakhon Sawan is Bueng Boraphet Lake, where visitors can take boat tours to observe birds and witness its seasonal “sea of red lotus flowers” during blooming season. Next to the lake lies the Bueng Boraphet Aquarium, specialized in freshwater fish. Otherwise — though this is primarily a draw for Thai tourists — Nakhon Sawan is also the source of the Chao Phraya River, Thailand’s most important river, which flows through Bangkok and beyond. Don’t miss Paradise Park or the Chinese shrine of Chao Pho Thepharak-Chao Mae Thapthim, nestled along the riverbank.
Beyond the city, you’ll find interesting and unusual temples, as well as the famous Khao Nor mountain — which I have not yet climbed.
