Your Travel Guide to Thailand
All information & tips to prepare your trip in Thailand
Located about 45 km northwest of Nakhon Sawan city, Khao Nor is an impressive limestone mountain — a kind of rocky pillar rising from the countryside that, as you can imagine, offers a stunning view to anyone brave enough to climb it. However, be prepared: while it’s not extremely difficult, it’s still quite a workout and definitely not suitable for those with a fear of heights.
The ascent of Khao Nor (sometimes spelled Khao No) combines stairs, rocky paths, and metal ladders — it’s not just a walk on a slightly steep trail, but rather a small, sporty adventure. At the top comes the reward: a breathtaking 360° panoramic view of the plains of Nakhon Sawan, the lakes, rice fields, and surrounding limestone formations.
Most visitors come here to reach the summit and enjoy the view, but there’s also Wat Khao Nor at the base of the mountain, featuring an interesting cave worth a short visit. The hike starts from the temple grounds. Again, you should be in decent shape — it’s not extremely hard, but it’s still physically demanding and not suitable for anyone with vertigo. Oh, and one more thing: whether at the temple (especially there) or along the climb, you’ll encounter monkeys. They’re used to people, but stay cautious — rabies is not eradicated in Thailand, so in the event of a bite or scratch, you’ll need to go to a hospital for a vaccination protocol.
There is no public transportation to Wat Khao Nor, so you will need your own vehicle to get there.
