Your Travel Guide to Thailand
All information & tips to prepare your trip in Thailand
Located in the Trat archipelago, between Koh Chang and Koh Kood, Koh Mak is an island that is still relatively unknown to foreign tourists in Thailand, ideal for travelers looking for tranquility and authenticity. With its white sand beaches lined with coconut trees, its crystal clear waters and its relaxed atmosphere, it offers a perfect setting to relax far from mass tourism.
Unlike its more lively neighbors, Koh Mak seduces with its peaceful atmosphere and controlled development. Here, no large hotel complexes or hectic nightlife, but rather family accommodation, beachfront bungalows and a friendly atmosphere. The island is also committed to a sustainable tourism approach, with responsible waste management and ecological initiatives.
Koh Mak’s accommodation offerings consist mainly of beachfront bungalows, small family resorts and charming guesthouses. There are no large hotel complexes here, which helps to preserve the island’s peaceful atmosphere. Options range from budget wooden bungalows with fans to comfortable resorts with pools and air conditioning. The most popular establishments are on Ao Kao Beach and Ao Suan Yai Beach, offering direct access to the sea and stunning sunsets. For a more intimate experience, some accommodations are nestled in tropical gardens or away from the main beaches. Be sure to book in advance during peak season, as places are limited on this small, unspoilt island.
The best time to visit Koh Mak is from November to April, when the weather is dry and sunny. The rainy season, from May to October, is quieter but can offer discounted rates on accommodation.
Koh Mak being a small island (about 16 km²), travel can be done a lot on foot. Even if to really explore all the corners of the island you can rent a scooter (be careful, you need a motorcycle license and international license to be in order and look at the exclusions of your insurance coverage). You can also travel the island by bike if you are a little more sporty.
La meilleure période pour venir à Koh Mak, c'est de décembre à mars, les mois les plus secs étant décembre, janvier et février. De mai à fin octobre, le coin est plutôt à éviter sous peine de voir votre séjour beaucoup perturbé par la pluie.
