Your Travel Guide to Thailand
All information & tips to prepare your trip in Thailand
Located very near the Ban Chiang Archaeological Museum, about sixty kilometers from the city of Udon Thani, this pottery workshop invites you to get hands-on and try your hand at both making pottery and painting it with natural pigments like those used in the Bronze Age. It's fun and entertaining. And, at least, that's what I found—simpler than I expected!
The owner speaks a little English, and with gestures and demonstrations, you can easily understand. Alternatively, come with a guide by taking this 5 or 6-day tour in Isan .
If you'd like, you can just watch a demonstration, but I recommend trying to get behind the potter's kiln yourself. They also offer a workshop on making bracelets and necklaces with terracotta beads.
If you can arrive unexpectedly from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., it's best to call the day before to reserve (Tel: 0894210068), and if possible, with someone who speaks Thai. Otherwise, you're not sure you'll find someone to welcome you, especially during the week. The reception at your hotel in Udon Thani should be able to help you and make the call for you.
Allow 1.5 to 2 hours for pottery + painting.
