The Sunday Walking Street is a large night market that takes place every Sunday in Chiang Mai in late afternoon in the center of the old walled city. Located on Rachadamnoen Road, it starts from the Tha Phae Gate and extends for 1 km. The street is closed to traffic and stalls are installed in 2 aisles. Besides Rachadamnoen Road, the market also occupies a small part of Praopkloa Road, the street of
Wat Pan Tao and
Wat Chedi Luang.
The Sunday Walking Street is a veritable institution in Chiang Mai! The choice of products sold is wide: traditional clothing, crafts, gadgets, food and drinks, souvenirs, jewelry ect .., it is difficult not to buy anything! You can even enjoy a massage installed on a chair on the sidewalk. It is especially when the night fall that the amrket becomes to be crowed. Because, yes,
Chiang Mai Sunday Walking Street attracts many people. And foreign tourists are not the majority. There are also a lot of Thai and many residents of Chiang Mai. Nothing to do with Chiang Mai night market which is really made for tourists. Here we are in something more popular and appreciated by the local population.
What I especially love are the food stalls that take place for the occasion in two temples: Wat Phan On and Wat Sum Pow. You have a wide choice of dishes for a budget of 25 to 60 THB. I strongly advise you to try to plan your stay in Chiang Mai to be here on Sunday. Chiang Mai Sunday Walking Street is my favorite night market in Thailand !
