Si Satchanalai the historical park is 45 km north of Sukhothai. Less popular than its counterpart in Sukhothai, it encloses as interesting temples of the same period. Wat Chang Lom and its base covered by stone elephants here, for example, is much better preserved than the temple with the same name in Sukhothai. The park is a nice mix of nature and historic remains, very pleasant to visit by cycling -rental shop at the entrance). And even if you climb the hill where stands Wat Khao Phanom Phloeng. If not bored with old stones, I recommend you to go there from Sukhothai!

I explain below how to get here and visit the historical park by your own but you can also go through this tour to Si Satchanalai from Sukhothai. It will cost you more but you will have a guide, and won't have to worry about climbing onto the right bus, missing your return bus, and you will avoid finding yourself standing on the return bus as I did ;)

.. Have a snack because even if an area is being to be fitted for the moment, there are no restaurants or shops in the park.
