Travel guide to go and visit Si Satchanalai
Often neglected by foreigner touristes because little known and it is not that easy to get there by bus (except by following my tips below), Si Satchanalai Historical Park worths a visit ! About sixty kilometers from Sukhothai, a still wild nature houses temples of the Sukhothai period in a serene and peaceful atmosphere. Wat Chang Lom is the most famous and probably the most beautiful temple in the historical park. A bit rough, the climb of the stairs leading to Wat Khao Phanom Phloeng plunges you into the forest and depending on the season, thousands of storks make their home in the temple's neighboring trees. It is very pleasant to stroll by bicycle on the shady paths of the historical park and to visit every temple ruin. Some people would say that it is redundant if you have already visited the Sukhothai historical park but here the atmosphere is different and if you like the ''old stones'' as we say, you will certainly be happy to have spent a day of your trip in Thailand in Si Satchanalai. Do not miss the beautiful temple of Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat Chaliang 3-4 kilometers outside the boundaries of the historic park. One of my favorites places in Si Satchanalai.
Accommodations in Si Satchanalai
There are not that many accommodations to sleep not far from Historical Park but there are some homestays, guesthouses and hotels on the road between the historical park and Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat.

If don't have transportation, there are some Wintour buses that you can take at New Sukhothai bus terminal and will pass not far from Si Satchanalai Historical Park. They can drop you on the main road just before a street leading to Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat. There you will see a small grocery store where the owner also rents bicycles (50 THB per day). My opinion :

deep in nature, it has several ruins of temples including Wat Chang Lom, which is better preserved here than the Wat Chang Lom in Sukhothai. Take time to climb the steps to the top of the hill. Up there, you will be surrounded by trees and discover a sitting Buddha and the chedi of Wat Khao Phanom Phloeng. A very peaceful place...
Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat Chaliang
starstarstar 5 km before the Historical Park. It is across the suspension bridge near which the bus from Sukhothai drops you off. Its impressive wihaan and its Buddhas are a good introduction to your day trip in Si Satchanalai
