In Ban Khlong district, 2-3 kilometers from the Phitsanulok city center, is a place you have to go if you are curious: a pond with giant water lilies. This small pond belongs to an individual who receives every day the visit of dozens of people. Why ? Because the pond is covered with
Victoria amazonica water lilies whose leaves can become very large, up to 3 meters in diameter, and robust and support the weight of a man.
The game here is to climb on one of them for a memorable photo. But obviously, you can also just come to observe the main pond and the little pond behind covered Victoria's amazonica. The setting is pretty, the fruit garden interesting and you are in the countryside less than 10 minutes drive from Phitsanulok. The owner explained to me that the water lilies on which you can stand are about a year old and can support up to 90 kilos. But he has to put rubber circles on the leaves before so you can stand on them. Note that the stems of these water lilies are also harvested and used to cook.
The water level at the end of the dry season and the beginning of the rainy season (approx. April to July) is too low to be able to climb on the lotus.
