Bo Sang village (you will also find the spelling 'Bor Sang') is located about ten kilometers from Chiang Mai city. It is famous all over Thailand for paper umbrellas making. It is a monk who discovered umbrella making in Burma and launched it in the village more than a century ago.
Once you arrived in Bo Sang, the best is to start by visiting the Bo Sang Umbrella Making Center. Behind the showroom,
there are several artisans working at each stage of the umbrella making from the buildingof the structure to painting the patterns. You will also find artists who will offer you to paint on several media (mobile phone cases, bags, habits, wallets ...) for a hundred bahts. Then, you can discover other workshops in the small streets. Workshop for making umbrellas, making famous Sa paper or working on other crafts (silver, wood...)
Every year, around January, Bo Sang Umbrella Festival takes place. The highlight of the event is the cycling parade. As soon as the dates are officially known, I add them on the website.

No admission fee (even for the Umbrella Making Center)
To come by public transport from Chiang Mai, you can take the white songthaews (white pickup cars) from the Warorot market. They will drop you off at the crossroads near the Bor Sang Umbrella Making Center. It will cost about thirty bahts and take about half an hour.
