Thailand is rich in traditions and has many festivals, some of which are famous worldwide. Loy Krathong, sometimes called the Festival of Lights, takes place in November and was voted the second-best festival in the world. It is undoubtedly the most photogenic festival in Thailand.
The main dates of the Buddhist calendar, the birthdays of the King and Queen and other days linked to the country's history are public holidays in Thailand. Banks and government offices are usually closed on those days, but transport, shops and restaurants operate normally.
