From Bangkok, you can only go to Rayong by bus or minivan. A bus leaves at least every hour from Mo Chit or Ekkamai terminals. There are also very regular minivans or short buses from the Chatuchak Minibus Station, just in front of the Mo Chit Bus Terminal. You can also find buses from Nakhon Ratchasima and other cities to Rayong (and Ban Phe) without going through Bangkok. There is no railway station in Rayong so it is impossible to come here directly by train. On the other hand, there is the U-Tapao Airport often called Pattaya Airport but which is only 30 kilometers from Rayong (the last 30 kilometers will have to be done by bus, van, or taxi). With the development of domestic air routes that land at this airport from Chiang Mai, or Udon Thani for instance, and some international flights, it can be very practical
WARNING: many buses can only be booked 30 days before depature tops. They won't be displayed in the results on our transportation booking partner's website if not bookable yet.
Ban Phe, is the starting point to the island of Koh Samet. There is about one departure every hour (less in low season) by the ferry companies and otherwise trips by speed boats at any time during th day (but prefer the ferry which pollutes less and makes less noise). To return to Pattaya or Bangkok or continue east, you can take the bus or minivans and choose to arrive in Bangkok at the Mo Chit terminal, the Minibus Station opposite to it, or at the Ekkamai terminal. For longer distances, U-Tapao Airport, 30 kilometers from Rayong, may be a good option with domestic flights to Chiang Mai, Udon Thani, or Phuket for example, or international flights.

The train is the cheapest way to travel in Thailand especially in 3rd class. This is also where the contact with the population is the most interesting and incredible...
Taking the plance to travel in Thailand is often not that much more expensive than the bus especially with the numerous specials offers and it is so much faster !
