Transport to go to Lopburi / leave Lopburi

To go to Lopburi ?

To get to Lopburi, you can choose between the train, buses from Bangkok's Northern Bus Terminal (Mo Chit Bus Terminal), or a minivan from Chatuchak Minibus Station, located directly across the street. The average journey time by bus is 3 hours, while the train journey takes between 1 hour 40 minutes and 3 hours 10 minutes, depending on the type of train. From Bangkok, there are trains departing from the new Krung Thep Aphiwat station that arrive at the new Lopburi 2 station, located just outside the city. Slower trains depart from the old Hua Lamphong station and arrive at the old Lopburi station, which is in the city center. There is also a local bus service (green songthaews) that connects the two stations for 20 baht per person during the day (6:00 AM–5:59 PM) and 40 baht at night (6:00 PM–5:59 AM). To go to Lop Buri by train from Bangkok, it is not necessary to book your train tickets in advance and in any case it is only possible on this route on the official website of the State Railway of Thailand 48 hours in advance at the earliest.

Leave Lopburi ?

From Lopburi you can continue north to Chiang Mai by train or return to Ayutthaya and Bangkok by train, bus, or van. There's a van agency for Bangkok near the train station; otherwise, the bus terminal is located here, 3 km from the center at the large roundabout on Narai Maracha Road (not the one with the King Narai statue, the one before it). The choice of destinations is rather limited. The minivans to Ang Thong, home to Thailand's largest Buddha, are not far from the bus terminal, behind the market. Note that if you choose to reach your next destination by train, there are now two train stations in Lopburi. Lopburi 2 is the new station for high-speed trains. It's located a little outside the city, and there's a green songthaew system that connects the two stations for 20 THB.
