The island of Koh Larn is located 8 km off Pattaya. It is a very popular destination among tourists who are mostly Thai on weekends. Many come from Bangkok, only 2 hours away to spend the end of the week or holidays. Koh Larn means the Coral Island. It has the sandy beaches and the turquoise sea the nearest from the Thai capital city. It is also a more enjoyable and relaxing place than the bustling Pattaya on the continent and its not that pretty beaches.Koh Larn is 4 km long and has a small hill on top with a small temple. There are two small villages Ban Ko Lan and Ban Krok Makhan. This is where the restaurants and most hotels and guesthouses are. Most of Koh Larn's beaches are located on the west coast. The most popular and populated one is undoubtedly Tawaen Beach. Personally, we prefer Nual Beach, quieter but sometimes also dirtier.

If there are many accommodation on Koh Larn, they are quickly full on weekends and holidays. Many Bangkok residents come then to enjoy the most beautiful beaches just 2 hours from the capital city. So advance booking is highly recommanded. The highest concentration of hotels and guesthouses is on Tawaen Beach. The range of rooms rates is quite wide and goes from small cheap guesthouses to large luxury hotels. The journey Pattaya - Koh Larn takes 40 minutes by ferry. The boats leave from Pattaya Bali Hai Pier, which is located in South Pattaya at the end of the Walking Street. Koh Larn has a tropical humid and dry climate. There are three seasons in Koh Larn : a warm and dry season (December to February), the best time, a hot and humid season (March and April) and a warm and rainy season (May to November).The best months to come to Koh Larn are from November to April and especially from December to February. September and October are the rainiest months.
