Built in 1957 at one end of Thong Nai Pan beach in Koh Phangan, Surat Thani province, Wat Thong Nai Pan is mostly interesting for one remarkable feature: its beer bottle chedi. Measuring 18 meters high, its construction required 6,000 beer bottles.
The chedi is located at the back of the temple where there is also a small cemetery whose burials are partly made with bottles. At the front of the temple, you are welcomed by a white boat on which stands the statue of a walking monk and then a small ordination hall. The other interesting element of the temple is its Buddhist library open to all.
Wat Thong Nai Pan is located just below the Thong Nai Pan Viewpoint, which can be reached in about ten minutes on foot.
