Your Travel Guide to Thailand
All information & tips to prepare your trip in Thailand
Located 5 kilometers from downtown Lamphun, The Terracotta Garden is a private site that took more than 10 years of work to become what it is today: a magnificent little stronghold of Khmer-inspired art. And it continues to grow. To be clear, this is not a historical site, nor actual ruins, but rather creations inspired by Khmer temples — yet it is absolutely stunning!
Personally, it wasn’t the garden itself with its café — yes, it is primarily a café where people come to enjoy a drink and a treat — that impressed me the most, but rather the lake and its small island with the chedi right in front of it.
Of course, it cannot compare to the real Khmer ruins of Northeast Thailand or Cambodia, but it is beautiful, so if you're in the area, make a stop! And it helps preserve this centuries-old art, as every statue, pottery piece, and bas-relief is handcrafted.
