It is the easiest and quickest accessible waterfall from downtown Chiang Mai. Located just after the Chiang Mai Zoo, it is accessed from the back of Wat Kruba Sivichai temple car park, which is just at the beginning of the road that climbs Doi Suthep mount. After the entrance you will arrive at the bottom of the waterfall with a few "basins" between the rocks. Children can play in the water safely there. The waterfall itself is a little further, less than 5 minutes walk (in all from the car park there is not even a 10 minute walk to get there), by taking the small path to the right of the bridge (just behind the ''Huay Kaew Waterfall'' sign). By climbing the waterfall in the prolongation of the path you will see a small path on the right which leads up to the top of the cascade. It is a visit that can easily make after visiting Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, to relax and refresh a little. Say 'Nam tok Huay Kaew' to the driver.

Just know that at the end of the dry season and beginning of the rainy season, the water level is often very low and the waterfall is sometimes dried out. The best months to have a real flow of water are generally from July to November.

Practical information about Huay Kaew Waterfall

No Admission fee

There are oftem more people on weekends, locals coming to spend a few hours there with their family and friends.

How to get to Huay Kaew Waterfall ?

You can take one of the red cars (songthaews) to come to Huay Kaew Waterfall, it should cost you 30 bahts per person (more expensive if you privatize the red car). To go back to the city you can join the main road and hail one of the red songthaews descending from Doi Suthep temple but all will not stop especially if you are numerous because they are usually already full. If you are more than 2 people it is probably better to have your own transport or to ask to be dropped at Chiang Mai Zoo and return to the Zoo or University a little lower down on the road to take a red car from there.
