Located 25 km west of Nakhon Si Thammarat town, the small village of Khiri Wong which won the Thai tourism award for the best cultural and community trips in 1998 is in the mountains. Residents have developed an ecotourism project to invite visitors to discover their way of life and to the beauty of nature through hiking trails and activities. It is particularly known for its batik and tie-dye. You will find several workshops, I put the GPS coordinates of the most important one, Ki Ree Pure Natural Live
. Call them at 080 393 9364 (mobile number) before coming if you want to make your own tie-dyed clothes.
Ban Khiri Wong is at the foot of Khao Luang mountain and its national park, the best way to enjoy the place is probably to stay in one of the homestays to then go to discover the waterfalls in the park. Khiriwong is the starting point for treks too. The best time, when nature and waterfalls are the most beautiful, is from July to September. It is also the fruit season and Khiriwong is famous for its fruit plantations. The best is to stay at least 2 days and one night.
