To come to Khon Kaen, you have all the choices except taking the boat. You have daily flights from Bangkok and Chiang Mai. The city is also accessible by train and by bus, of course (online booking available on this website). Many major cities of Thailand are connected to Khon Kaen with at least one bus line with at least one bus per day. All cities in Isan are connected to Khon Kaen by bus with several trips a day. From Bangkok, there is at least one bus every hour and the trip takes about seven hours. From Chiang Mai, it takes 10 hours by bus.

To leave Khon Kaen again you have all choices. You can fly to Bangkok or Chiang Mai or go by train to the capital and all cities in Isan served by the railway . By bus, you have very frequent links to other Northeastern cities and major cities in Northenr Thailand. There is a bus to Bangkok every hour at least. Please note that the city has three bus terminals so make sure you choose the one serving your destination. A tuk-tuk transfer from one terminal to another will cost you around 150 THB.

Taking the plance to travel in Thailand is often not that much more expensive than the bus especially with the numerous specials offers and it is so much faster !
