Koh Lanta is a relatively large island (in fact, it is even 2 islands, Koh Lanta YaÏ and Koh Lanta Noï but we will mainly focus on Koh Lanta Yaï), getting around everywhere requires a suitable means of transport. One of the most popular ways is renting a scooter, which offers great freedom to explore the island at your own pace (but be careful because the vast majority of you do not meet the conditions to legally drive a scooter in Thailand and this is often part of the insurance exclusions). The roads are generally in good condition, although you have to be careful on some steeper or less maintained sections, especially in the south of the island.
There are many tuk-tuks and even songthaews, they remain, in my opinion, the safest solution for getting around Koh Lanta. However, hoping to hail them on the road can make you wait a long time for one to pass and be free. The best thing is to check with the reception of your hotel (and why not take the number of a driver to call him when you need). Always negotiate the price before getting in.
The bike is a possible alternative, especially for those who stay in the flatter areas of the island like Long Beach or Klong Dao. However, the more marked relief of the south and the heat can make the journeys more tiring. And there are quite few bike rental options on Koh Lanta (but you can find them, I went around the island like that in my youth ;)).
