No more sun beds and parasols on Patong Beach Phuket

We complained a lot about it so we surely welcome this initiative: yesterday  Patong Beach in Phuket was cleaned from its sun beds and parasols. The beach is much more lovely and friendly that way !

The method was a little rash because they are about 350 vendors and deckchair operators who have lost their jobs in one day. A team of 200 men including military officers, defence volunteers and municipality staff headed by Colonel Somchai Ponathong, removed chairs, umbrellas and tents as part of a reorganization of the beach landscape recently launched by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).

Colonel Somchai said that suppliers were ordered to remove their structures from Patong Beach but were allowed to continue their activities as long as they do not encroach on the beach. Mayor of Patong, Chalermluck Kebsab, said vendors have registered their names so officials can later discuss measures on how to help them. 60 sunbed operators, 190 masseuses and 100 boats and jet skis operators have registred.

The junta in Thailand who wants to act fast and solve the problems that tarnish the country’s image and restore the tourists confidence. Will they do the same thing in South Pattaya ?
