Chiang Mai nominated as UNESCO World Heritage site
The Fine Arts Department is assigning a committee to prepare proposals to hopefully get Chiang Mai nominated as a World Heritage site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The committee aims to show how Chiang Mai should meet the criteria of UNESCO with its beauty and history. Chiang Mai was founded by King Mangrai, the first King of Chiang Mai, capital of the Lanna Kingdom.

There are many things on display in Chiang Mai such as the older cultural landscape including Doi Suthep-Pui National Park, the Ping River, the inside city wall and the outside city wall.
There are even still some ancient remains outside the city wall and in Wiang Kum Kam, the old capital city founded by King Mangrai before he moved to Chiang Mai city. There is also admirable modern constructions, for example, the Nawarat Bridge, the train station, the Chinese shrine, mosque, and modern architecture built by the missionary westerns.
