Wongwian Yai Station, located west of the Chao Phraya River, was opened in 1903. Although small and modest compared to other major stations in Bangkok, it has long been an important departure point for local workers and travelers. Today, it mainly serves journeys to the western suburbs of the capital.
From Wongwian Yai Station, trains mainly serve the commuter line to Mahachai, earning it its nickname Mahachai Line. I've been talking about it for years because by taking this line from Wongwian Yai in Bangkok, then a small ferry to cross the river, and then another train from Ban Laem station, you find yourself on board the train that crosses the famous market on the Maeklong rails. It allows another perspective than from the track and also to go there for a very small budget, not to mention the nice little adventure by train that crosses the suburbs, then countryside and salt marshes.

Practical information about Wongwian Yai Railway Station
Just like for trains departing from Thonburi train station, here, no purchase of tickets in advance, you buy them at the ticket office just before departure (you can even buy them from the controller on board).
There are quite a few small stands, stalls and restaurants along the platform of Wongwian Yai station. You can find taxis but mostly tuk-tuks at the end of the platform.
How to get to Wongwian Yai Railway Station?
While there is a BTS metro station with the same name, it is still quite far from Wongwian Yai train station. It is a good ten-minute walk. However, several bus lines have a stop nearby (lines 28 - 37 - 42 - 529 in particular).
