Top 10 Tourist Attractions in Thailand

The review site TripAdvisor has completed its Travellers’ Choice Awards yesterday by publishing the ranking of the favorite attractions of its visitors. A classification as always subject to dispute which has the advantage of showing the most popular and not the most interesting attractions and there is a big difference! Here are the results for tourist attractions in Thailand.

Temple du Phanom Rung Buriram

Top 10 Thailand Monuments

1. Wat Pho, Bangkok

2. The Grand Palace, Bangkok

3. Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn), Bangkok

4. Wat Phra Kaeo (Temple of the Emerald Buddha), Bangkok

5. Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, Chiang Mai

6. Jim Thompson House, Bangkok

7. Wat Traimit (Temple of the Golden Buddha)), Bangkok

8. Phuket Big Buddha

9. Wat Rong Khun or White Temple, Chiang Rai

10. (Wat Saket) The Golden Mount, Bangkok

We can note that of the 10 monuments listed there are 7 attractions in Bangkok and except for Chiang Rai, there are very “known” cities. This is a result at TripAdvisor’s image. It is based on the principle of making people act like lemmings and absolutely doesn’t show what really are the most interesting landmarks of the country. It is mainly an indication of where most visitors go during a trip in Thailand. Yes, it is their choice but it is a choice made with lack of information about what else exists. How many people who go to Thailand are aware of the existence of the magnifiscent temple of Phanom Rung, which should be high in this top 10? Very few. And this is where our website Thailandee.com has a role to play breaking habits of reviewers’ websites that always draw the same roads when you expect them to make you discover new attractions. Our top 10 of visits to do in Thailand would at least include Phanom Rung of course, Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon in Ayutthaya, Wat Si Chum in Sukhothai and not Wat Traimit, Jim Thomson House or Phuket Big Buddha, still under construction, that we would have replaced by the one in Wat Muang in Ang Thong which is so much more impressive!

Use TripAdvisor’s rankings to know where mass tourism go ang readpersonnal blogs or our visit pages to see what else exists. Because a trip in Thailand limited to TripAdvisor’s Top 10 attractions would be so boring !
