Phanom Rung Historical Park Festival (31 Mar – 2 Apr)
Phanom Rung is probably the most beautiful Khmer temple in Thailand. Located in Buriram province, it organizes every year the “Climbing up Khao Phanom Rung” fair with a big sound and light show among others events.

Besides the light and sound show entitled “Phanom Rung Miracle”, visitors can witness a rare moment, the solar phenomenon of the temple when the sun rises through the 15 doors of the building.
This happens 4 times a year, 2 times for sunrise and 2 times for coupons. You can find all the details and dates on my previous post dedicated to the Phanom Rung solar phenomenon.
The sound and light shows will take place twice a day at 7.00 pm and 8.20 pm.
There will also be a big ceremony at Phanom Rung Historical park, a demonstration on how to draw Panom Roong Stone Castle. There is also Apsara Dancing tournament, Vintage Market and OTOP products.
Festival opening ceremony will be today March 31 at 7 pm.

Phanom Rung temple
Little known because in one of the less touristic parts of Thailand, the temple of Phanom Rung is a magnificent example of Khmer architecture. Originally, it was a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva, built between the 10th and 13th centuries. Only building in the Historical Park of Phanom Rung, it has been carefully restored and is definitely worth a detour especially for its long paved driveway.
If you want to visit it or attend the festival, I recommend you book your hotel in Nang Rong, the closest town, rather than in Buriram.
