Sangkhlaburi Mon bridge is repaired !
Part of the famous Sangkhlaburi wooden bridge was destroyed in July 2013 due to heavy weather. Literally cut in half, it was repaired and reopened to the public yesterday. Good news for those planning to visit this city that I have to say left me real good memories !

The bridge was built by Mons entirely with wood. it is 850 meters long and is the largest of its kind in Thailand and the second largest in the world (after the Ubeng bridge in Myanmar). It is the main tourist attraction in Sangkhlaburi with the “sunken” temple, Wat Saam Prasob.
It took more than a year to repair the bridge over the River Song Kalia. Repairs were carried out with the help of Sangkhla Buri residents, in collaboration with the Surasi Engineering Unit of the 9th Army Division. A temporary floating bridge was built in a few days to let people continue to cross the river by feet.
Official and religious ceremonies that attracted many many people were held on Saturday for the reopening of the Uttamanusorn bridge (its real name even if everyone calls it Saphan Mon meaning Mon bridge in Thai). This was followed by performances of folk dances and a light and sound show in the evening. The date of October 18, coincided with the anniversary of the death of revered Luang Por Uttama who gave his name to the bridge.
All available rooms in Sangkhlaburi have been reserved for the occasion. The destination is very popular with Thais for its climate, its bridge and the nature.
