Bangkok is not the best city for tourism in the world any more

Since 2009 Bangkok always occupied the first place in the ranking of the best destinations of the world for tourism in the Travel + Leisure magazine’s ranking. But thi year, Bangkok is not even in the Top 10.

The months of political instability that ended in a coup even if it is a Thai fashion way coup, are probably the main explanation why Bangkok lost its first  place. Chiang Mai, 10th last year, is no longer in the Top 10 neither. Bangkok is not even the first city in Asia outpaced by Kyoto and Siem Reap, gateway to Angkor temples in Cambodia.

The magazine ranking is based on votes allocated to each city by readers of the magazine based on criteria such as culture, arts, food and the value for money.

It is not that the city has lost its tourist attraction, it is more likely that the context of the country in recent months, did not give a such attractive image as it did in the past. No doubt this is just a parenthesis in the domination of the Thai capital…
